[MPOV] Lost Light (Harry Bosch #9)

My rating: 3/5
Goodreads rating: 4.18/5
Published: April 1st, 2003
Author: Michael Connelly
Genre: Mystery, thriller, crime fiction

#tbntbookchallenge:
11) Read a book themed around "Light" OR by an Indian author

The vision has haunted him for four years--a young woman lying crumpled in death, her hand outstretched in silent supplication. Harry Bosch was taken off the Angella Benton murder case when the production assistant's death was linked with the violent theft of two million dollars from a movie set. Both files were never closed. Now retired from the L.A.P.D., Bosch is determined to find justice for Angella. Without a badge to open doors and strike fear into the guilty, he's on his own. And even in the face of an opponent more powerful and ruthless than any he's ever encountered, Bosch is not backing down.

Firstly, I just realised there are 22 books in this Harry Bosch's series! I'm sure there are more coming but I picked this mainly because it meets November's theme for TBNT Book Challenge :-)

This is the first book after Harry Bosch has retired from the L.A.P.D and has just gotten his P.I license. He picked up a cold case which he can never forget and tries to solve it but encountered many hurdles thrown his way. As he is determined to continue, he faces more ruthless threats and the hurdles just got bigger and badder!

The story was a little flat at the start with Harry reminiscing his past and reasons with his present. The pace finally picks up in the middle when Harry was knee deep into the case and more threats presenting itself. With loads of referencing here and there, I did get lost a little but at the end, the outcome sweetened the deal and the victim got her prayer answered. Better late than never.

Overall, it was well written, straight-forward and right on the dot. I'm impressed that the author could still write so much and keeps us entertained. I guess crime stories are never ending with a few ruthless and insane people in this world still creating chaos. Definitely entertaining and it was nice the way it ended for this book. At book 9, it can still be considered as a standalone as not much cliffhanger ending here and it was well explained throughout without being repetitive.

"He did and I waited a moment for my eyes to adjust to the darkness. My vision and focus came back and I could pick up the outline of the rock walls and jutting surfaces. I could see the light that had followed us in. 'What is it?' Lindell asked. 'Lost light. I wanted to see the lost light.'"

Sew: A simple tote bag

I have sewn this tote bag full of cats for Princess as her birthday present! It's a simple design which I've seen on Whitney Sews' YouTube Channel and it was easily done in 3 hours max! I didn't keep tab of the time but I've just done it in one night while hubs was watching MotoGP so it's an assumption. I sure hope Princess likes it especially it is filled with cats, cats, cats! Yeap, she loves cats LOL!

What I've used:

  • water proof material for the outside
  • poly-cotton material for the lining
  • bag handle bought from Daiso
Happy birthday Princess! May all your catty wishes come true!!! Study hard please!!!

Happy Deepavali!!!

A very Happy Deepavali to all readers, friends and family who are celebrating this Festival of Light!

During this COVID-19 pandemic, it is crucial that you all stay safe and most importantly stay at home. Practice the basic hygiene such as wash your hands frequently. Also wear a face mask whenever you have to leave home. Try to avoid crowded spaces if possible. It is not an easy year but let us fight this pandemic together and hope that it will be eradicated before CNY 2021!!!

Again, have a safe celebration ya all!!!

CMCO again: day 28

It has been extended yet again, this time for a month. Sad but true. With the numbers staying at 3 to 4 digits, continuing this partial lockdown is the only sane choice. There are ignorant people who just couldn't stay at home and yet there are people who has no choice but to leave house for work. I'm just too speechless to say more or comment more... it's been nearly a year we have been battling this unseen virus but humans will always be humans. They don't seemed to get it, that they are not invincible and the virus does not choose their victims.

All I can say is that I also do value my freedom but I also cherish my life and my family's lives. So if you can work from home, please stay put at home and order whatever you need online. There are many varieties available online now so you are never short of supplies. I know there are some who supported local hotels by frequenting their 'work from hotel's cafe instead of home' offer. It is good of you to support the local market or tourism but now is not the time. This is for the greater good of humanity and hopefully we are able to either kill this virus permanently or have an antidote for it sooner than expected. You can still support the local tourism after all this has blown over. Please think before you act.

Thank you and may God bless you.

CMCO again - day 15

So it has been extended again for another 2 weeks until 9/11/2020. It is something to be expected since the numbers are still high, not coming down to 2 digits as yet. However I was praying hard that we get to go to the office due to many unfavourable situations here. Oh well, looks like I still have to work from home until then... sigh!

I know I should be thankful to still have a job and I'm still able to work from home instead of travelling in the public transport to work. With this pandemic, there are so many heartaches that it is truly testing our sanity and well-being. We have to be mentally strong to face the unforeseen circumstances and also the expectations of the bosses. Working from home meaning the bosses won't know what we are doing i.e. working fully or playing around the house etc. We didn't asked for this so to be micro-managed is a little foreboding but have to be endured lah... no choice.

I'm just trying to reason with self to stay positive. Just ranting to let it out from my chest, so to speak. I know there are many people losing their jobs so such minuscule should not hinder my positive mind. *fingers crossed*

[Sew] Booksleeves

Finally indulged in sewing booksleeves for myself! It was quite easy although I did cut the material wrongly at first but it turned out quite well in the end! Thankfully as the material I have was quite limited! I've sewn 2 types i.e. 1 opened from the top and the other opened sideways. Looking at it, I do require lots of practice! I've even forgotten some of the sewing tips taught by my teacher the last time, especially on how to bring out the corners/edges sharp and smooth. Anyway, here's to more sewing practice! Hopefully I can perfect it and sew more for sale under my blogshop!

What I've used:

  • Waterproof material for the outside
  • Poly-cotton material for the inside
  • Fusible batting
  • Ribbons
  • Elastic band and button
Opened from the top
Opened from the side

  • Poly-cotton material for the inside
  • Fusible batting
  • Zipper

[Sew] Fabric face masks

After testing out 2 face mask's templates with feedback received from my family, I have finally gotten my own design right and I am very happy with the outcome. As we preferred the full face mask type ala surgical ones, I've sewn this design with relish and the outcome is positively good! I am glad that it turned out fine and hope to sew more for the family and maybe for sale too :-)

It's 2 ply with an insert for filter. What I have used and where I have bought:

  • Cotton fabric - I have bought cotton fabric from various shops such as Fabric Fanatics, Maker's Habitat and Spotlight
  • Elastic bands - I have bought it from Fabric Fanatics and Maker's Habitat
  • Stoppers for elastic bands - I have bought this from Fabric Fanatics
  • Filter used is medium-weight interfacing - I have bought this from Maker's Habitat
